at a gas station in new jersey which is not far from where i live in the northwest corner of new jersey, a gas station was fined $50,000 for raising the price of gas more than 10 percent for a day. the guy could not pay the $50,000 so the state took over the gas station, and they didn't know what to do with the gas station so they sold it back to the oil company who sold to someone else. that was a very stiff fine. the governor is serious. he has dispatched a lot inspectors to make sure this doesn't happen. gas seems to be the issue. we talked about batteries and other things but most states allow you to raise the price up to 10 percent and they allow you to raise it above 10 percent from before the tragedy if your suppliers have raised it. for example, we saw cases in new york city this morning where restaurants were charging $3 for a cup of coffee. that is because they had to use bottled water because they didn't have any water. if that is the real confident of the cup of coffee plus a little bit of profit for them, although it sounds like a lot money for a cup coffee that is normally

all across new jersey, the snow has ended there, but much of new jersey had five, six, seven inches of snow. but for us locally now, we just have a few scattered sprinkles here in western fairfax county, and in southern maryland, southern calvert, st. mary's getting a few sprinkles, maybe a little bit of wet snow mixing in in parts of delaware, just to the west of salisbury east of cambridge. right now we're all above freezing. thankfully we are near 40 degrees. it's going to stay above freezing here for the rest of the morning. but right now, out of the mountains, a few locations there that are at or a little bit below freezing. it's in the low 30s and upper 20s there. hour by hour today, the wind are going to be increasing. in fact, maybe some gust around 30 miles an hour later this morning, and during part of the afternoon, as we get toward the middle of the afternoon, though, some sun should break out. we'll be in the low 50s. winds diminishing by late afternoon. the sunset at 5:00. overnight tonight, we ought to clear out. four-day forecast, here comes that warm-up. looks like it'

atlantic new jersey we know we did not get the worst of it. we are sending charlie up to atlantic city this morning, so he's out in our parking lot. you're about to leave, and what's the goal of this trip? what are you hoping to inform people about? >> what we're doing is we want to give people an idea of how close we came to a direct hit. this storm sandy was 900 miles in diameter so when you look at it from the point of view of a radium it was 450 miles and it missed us by 100 miles. here's an idea to give you a clue. this a map quest of where we are relative to atlantic city. we're 150 miles as a drive up to philadelphia and over, but on a direct line we're right about 100 miles from the path of the storm. what our photojournalist and i are going to do today is we're going to hop in the car. we set our trip odometer down to 0. we're leaving in 5 minutes and we're going to drive to atlantic city just to show you how close and how fortunate we were here in baltimore and this part of maryland to missing this storm. we're going to have reports
